The Red Cross’s assistance in the Kayes and Yélimané health districts dates back to June 2012, in response to the food crisis that shook the country. The current 9-month project represents the third phase of this initiative. The program covers 26 health zones in Yélimané and 47 in Kayes.
This evaluation followed the three stages of the SQUEAC methodology, and the results yield an estimate of current coverage of 21.1% (95% CI: [13.2%–32.6%] in the Kayes health district and 30.9% (95% CI: [21.6%–42.1%]) in Yélimané. This low coverage in these two districts, which receive support from the Red Cross, reflects certain program weaknesses—particularly in the screening system and community mobilization—but is also the result of a low level of ownership of the activities and insufficient integration of nutrition into the CSCom’s minimum package of activities.
