SQUEAC Report, IFO N Refugee Camp, Dadaab, Kenya, 2015

Dadaab refugee camp comprises of 5 camps namely, Hagadera, Dagahaley, IFO, IFO- 2 west and Kambios camp. Dagahaley, Hagadera and IFO are the oldest camps as well as the largest. Currently, Islamic releief implementsts health and Nutirtion activities and management of schools in IFO camp. Previously coverage was based on the HIS data reported on monthly basis, hence the coverage reported was over 100% which was not a true representaion of the camp coverage. To establish the actual coverage of the CMAM program SQUEAC assesment was undertaken in IFO camp. The objective of the assesment was to identify contextual barriers and boosters of the program, understand community knowleldge and current practises in relation to malnutrition.

The assessment was conducted in three stages, the first stage was collection and analysis of secondary data, the second stage involved hypothesis generation and conducting a small area survey to test the hypothesis. The third stage entailed, actual survey data collection where in sampled blocks the teams moved from house to house taking MUAC measurement of all children age 6 to 59 months. Mothers who had malnourished children who were not in any CMAM program were interviewed so as to identify some of the barriers preventing them from accessing the programs.
