SQUEAC Coverage assessment – Makawanpur district, Nepal 2017
Semi-Quantitative Evaluation of Access and Coverage (SQUEAC) assessment was held in Makawanpur district in February 2017. The overall objective of the survey was to evaluate the access and coverage of Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition program (IMAM) in Makwanpur district focusing on management of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) cases. Although IMAM program is not limited to management of severe acute malnutrition. The project deals with only SAM management. Hence, the assessment is limited to only SAM management. The assessment covered quantitative information on SAM case management from January to December 2016.

SQUEAC is a multi-stage (three stage) and two-pronged (qualitative and quantitative) assessment technique therefore the enumerators received one-day training at the beginning of each stage. The project trained nine enumerators in taking MUAC measurement, edema checking, active- adaptive case finding, door-to-door sampling, administering the interview guides and conducting group discussions. Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape and presence of bilateral pitting edema was taken as two methods for case identification. The assessment covered entire district by subdividing into 15 sections based on the catchment areas of outpatient therapeutic care centers (OTCC), point of service of IMAM program. The assessment team used active-adaptive case finding and door-to-door sampling to locate cases.
