Nutrition Determinants Assessment (NDA): Renivohitra district, Antananarivo, Madagascar

Key findings: The qualitative data collected during this study made it possible to identify and categorize 20 determinants likely to influence the prevalence of undernutrition (acute malnutrition and stunting) in the study area. Following community feedback sessions, five (5) determinants were identified as having a major impact, four (4) determinants were classified as having an important impact, and eleven (11) determinants were considered to have a minor impact.

Among the determinants identified by the community as major, two were related to the health sector: limited access to health services and short birth spacing: early, repeated, or unintended pregnancies. Two determinants were identified in the food security and livelihoods sector: limited access to income sources and low resilience capacities. One determinant was identified in the gender sector:  heavy women’s workload.
