Action Contre la Faim (ACF) is funded by the European Union (EU) to implement a program in Dadu District, Sindh, Pakistan entitled Women infants/children Improved Nutrition in Sindh (WINS). The EU-WINS program focuses on strengthening the government’s capacity at the provincial and district levels to address high rates of acute and chronic malnutrition. The EU funds support an integrated program with Nutrition (CMAM and IYCF), food security and livelihoods (FSL) and water sanitation and hygiene (WASH). The nutrition component has infant and young child feeding (IYCF) and nutritional education is integrated into CMAM programming.

The CMAM program has Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) sites in each of 30UCs, supplementary feeding programs (SFP) that ran in tandem with them (SFP till Dec 2013). Severely acutely malnourished (SAM) children without medical complications are treated in OTP. SAM cases with medical complications are referred to the SC for stabilization and nutritional therapy and are then transferred to the OTP site nearest their community. Prior to December 2013 when the SFP programme was operational, children discharged as cured from OTP were enrolled in the SFP programme for the treatment of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) to prevent SAM relapse. Since then the children cured at OTP are retained within the OTP and shifted to one Sachet of RUTF per day as a replacement of SFP protocol and to prevent SAM relapse.
