Cox’s Bazar Refugee Settlements, Coverage survey, August-September 2018
In July and August 2018 a coverage assessment of CMAM services was completed in the Cox’s Bazar refugee settlements in Bangladesh. The assessment took place around ten months after the influx of more than 700,000 Rohingya refugees into the Cox’s Bazar refugee settlements. The coverage assessment took place over the course of four weeks and was completed by the Action Against Hunger Bangladesh survey team in collaboration with the partners of Cox’s Bazar’s Nutrition Sector.

The main objectives of the coverage assessment were to classify the coverage of SAM and MAM treatment services across five predefined “SLEAC zones” and to estimate coverage for the entire assessment area in order to provide nutrition partners with baseline coverage estimates and to provide them with information to improve service uptake. To achieve this, a coverage assessment as completed using the SLEAC methodology (Simplified Lot Quality Assurance Sampling Evaluation of Access and Coverage) in parallel with a qualitative investigation in selected communities.
The assessment area included all registered and makeshift camps in the upazilas of Ukhia and Teknaf (33 camps in total). Refugee populations in host communities were not included. The SLEAC assessment enabled nutrition partners to classify treatment coverage of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) treatment on a three-tier scale (Low, Moderate or High) in each zone and to estimate coverage.
